The Smarana-dasa stage: the difference between Vaidha and Raganuga Bhava. The need for the latter
Smarana-dasa; tahate vaidha o raganugata bhavera bheda. Sesatirai prayojana
There are two types of smarana: vaidha and raganuga. Meditation at the raganuga stage is not in the injunctions of the Sastras.
Smarana resulting from attraction to madhurya-rasa quickly leads to attaining the state of bhavapana[1].
The gradual progress of the devotee following the path of Vaidha
Vaidha-bhaktera unnati-krame
At the time of smarana, the devotee following the path of vaidha always considers what is favorable according to the injunctions of Sastra.
On attaining bhava, the moment it appears, the devotee abandons the injunctions of Sastra, knowing that they are a disturbance.
One gradually progresses from sraddha, nistha, ruci, and asakti, up to bhava. At the time of attaining one’s identity, bhava manifests.
At the stage of Apana Dasa, there is no difference between those devotees who follow the path of Raganuga and those who follow Vaidha
Apana-dashaya raganuga o vaidha-bhaktera bheda nai
The Veda-Smriti states that upon attaining bhava, there is no longer any difference between devotees who follow the path of raganuga and those who follow vaidha.
