Consulting the Srutis is the method of purification
Sruti-vicare suddha prakriya
When the primary meanings[1] of the Srutis meet, ultimately suddha-bhakti is obtained. Then the Jiva acquires the wealth of prema.
He who accepts the useless secondary meanings of the Srutis turns away from the eternal truth and perishes due to his offense.
All the Vedas agree that pranava Om is the Name of Krishna. By chanting that Name, the Jivas can reach the eternal abode.
Pranava, the great word[2] of the Vedas, is a Name of Krishna. A devotee takes eternal refuge in this Name.
The Vedas declare to the world the spiritual nature of nama. Even with a namabhasa[3], all kinds of perfections are achieved.
The Vedas only give instructions on pure Nama-bhajana
Veda kevala suddha-nama-bhajana siksa dena
Those who are unfortunate do not understand all the teachings found within the Veda and do offense to the Name by criticizing the Vedas.
Mahajanas who practice Suddha-nama take refuge in the Vedas and attain nama-rasa and the treasure of prema.
All the Vedas say, “Chant Hari-nama, that is the essence! By chanting, you will get the highest kind of love and unlimited bliss.”
The Vedas also say: In the spiritual world, the realized Mahajanas constantly chant nama-sankirtana.
The teachings of the Tamasika Tantras are opposite to the Vedas
Tamasa-tantra siksa veda viruddha
In Kali-yuga many people worship Maya-sakti, rejecting the transcendental personality and rasa of krishna-nama.
Followers of tantras who are in the mode of ignorance criticize the Vedas. Finding pleasure in wine and meat, they die due to their adharma[4].
All these critics never accept Krishna-nama. They never reach Krishna’s abode in Vrindavana.
The need for mercy by Maya Devi
Maya-devira niskapata krpa-i prayojana
Maya Devi forces all these atheists to fall and is not inclined to give them the nectar of the Holy Name.
But if Maya is satisfied with their service to a sadhu, then she will unreservedly give them the shadow of Krishna’s feet.
Maya is the servant of Krishna and punishes the Jivas who are averse to the Lord. Those hypocrites who worship Maya will never attain auspiciousness.
To those who chant Krishna-nama, Maya Devi gives niskapata-krpa[5] and thus they can go beyond material nature.
Therefore, one should abandon the offense of Sruti-ninda[6] and day by day absorb oneself in the rasa of nama-sankirtana.
The remedy for this offense
Tad-aparadhera pratikara
If I foolishly criticize the Srutis, I must repent and offer them respect again.
I have to offer them flowers and tulasi, I have to constantly worship them along with Bhagavata with great care.
The Bhagavata[7] is the essence of Sruti and is an avatara of Krishna. He will surely grant me unlimited mercy!
He who trusts in the dust of Hari Dasa’s feet places this jeweled necklace of Holy Names around his neck.
