Diksa and Siksa-Gurus Should be Given Equal Respect

A householder who renounces his home should take shelter of a Guru who is not a householder

If for some reason one renounces grhastha-dharma and enters another asrama, but ultimately fails to attain the highest attainment, one must seek a Sadhu-Guru.

Everyone agrees that in this circumstance, by taking diksa and siksa from a non-grhastha acarya, that person will swim in the nectar of nama-rasa.

The devotee who renounces his home should not reject his previous Guru

Grhi-bhakta grha-tyaga karile-o purva-guru tyaga karite haya na

A devoted householder who reaches the stage of renunciation should abandon the rules of family life. But throughout his life he should continue to accept the shelter of his former Guru’s feet.

Among the grihasthas, a Guru living in his house is glorious if he is a pure devotee. However, those who have already renounced their home should seek an appropriate Guru. At all times, the Guru must be competent.

Having accepted a true Guru, one should worship him with devotion. When bhava arises, one becomes indifferent to the world and renounces it. So, he becomes a renunciate.

One who takes refuge in renunciation should accept a Guru who is a renunciate

Yini vairagya asraye laibena tini vairagi Guru kariben

One in vairagya-asrama[1] should accept a renunciate as his Guru. At his feet one will learn renunciation. Such a Guru is a wish-fulfilling tree of spiritual instructions.

Diksa and Siksa-Gurus should be given equal respect

Diksa and Siksa are the two types of Gurus, and both should be respected equally. If they wish, they can easily bestow the highest wealth on a suitable recipient.

The Diksa Guru gives the krishna-nama mantra[2] and the Siksa Guru imparts tattva[3]. All Vaishnavas can become Siksa Gurus and thus create all auspiciousness.
