Dear Guru Maharaj
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to You and SP.
“Nārada Muni continued: By devotional service one cannot achieve such intense absorption in thought of the Supreme Personality of Godhead as one can through enmity toward Him. That is my opinion.”
In this verse I do not understand why narada muni says that one can achieve better absorption in thought, through enmity of him.
It makes me think that if I thought badly about Krishna, then I would be more absorbed in thought of Him.
Can You please tell me what Narada Muni means in this verse? Thank You.
Your servant

Answer
Dear Bhakta ***,
Please receive my blessings. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
Srila Prabhupada explains this concept very well in his purport to the verse. Narada Muni stresses the importance of thinking about Krishna, how purifying it is. He is not saying that being an enemy of Krishna is a good thing but thinking to Krishna is.
Srila Rupa Gosvami delves into this concept even more stating that real devotional service is favorable and not unfavorable. One has to think to Krishna with love and not with hate or fear.
He says:
“Devotional service means to prosecute Kṛṣṇa conscious activities which are favorable to the transcendental pleasure of the Supreme Lord Kṛṣṇa, and any activities which are not favorable to the transcendental favor of the Lord cannot be accepted as devotional service.”
