Ayodhya is located in the state of Uttara Pradesh in northern India, not far from the large commercial center of Lucknow. It is a large and prosperous city, very beautiful. In Ayodhya the devotees of Rama are practically one hundred percent of the population, and there are still numerous places that commemorate the reign of Rama (ramarajya).

Valmiki’s hermitage still exists, and it is a very popular pilgrimage site. It is not far from present day Allahabad, just across the Ganges.

Citrakuta is a beautiful hill located a little further south from Valmiki’s hermitage.

Dandaka is a gigantic forest that once extended over such a large territory that today it would touch at least four states of India: Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharastra.

Pancavati is located in Maharastra, not far from Bombay. Today, the city of Nasik stands in the place where Laksmana wounded Surpanakha.

The city of Kiskindha and the forest where Sugriva was hiding were most likely between the borders of the states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

The bridge that Rama and the Vanaras built can still be seen today at Ramesvaram, in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Of course, Lanka still exists; it is the island which until recently was called the island of Ceylon and which today has been renamed with its original name, Sri Lanka.
