Govardhana Puja

Govardhana Hill

Govardhana Puja, also known as Annakuta Festival, is celebrated during the month of Kartika (October – November), on the day after Diwali.

This festival celebrates the offering of a mountain of food items to Govardhan hill by Nanda Maharaja and the residents of Braja.

On this day Govardhana hill is worshiped.

In most of the temples of Vrindavana and Braja, huge quantities of sumptuous food are prepared for this ceremony and are distributed to the general public.

A large hill of prasada (sacred food) is made in many temples.

Devotees circle the hill and then honor the prasada that has been offered to Govardhana hill.

Also models of Govardhana are made out of cow dung by local residents.

Govardhana Puja is also known as the Annakuta festival.

On this day there is a large stream of visitors to Govardhana hill.

Especially crowded are Manasi Ganga and Jatipura.
