The word Ista means “dear” or “cherished” and Deva, or Devata, means “Deity”.
When someone chooses his Deity and serve Him the whole of his life with devotion, that is his Ista Devata (इष्ट देवता).
How can I know who is my Ista Devata? Can I freely choose the one I like most?
The safest way is to ask a qualified Guru.
More to come on the Ista Devata
