Question
Hare Krishna – I am happy to know how glorious is the holy name from your article i.e., “Namabhasa offers eternal residence in the spiritual abode of Vaikuntha, especially in Kali-yuga.” This is the declaration of scripture.
I want to know the scriptural evidence for the above statement. Please help.
Answer
The article you are referring to has not been written by me so I can’t give you the exact quote. It would certainly be good to give references when saying “sastra says”.
However the principle expressed in those sentences is correct.
Namabhasa means chanting of the Holy Names at the clearing stage, therefore still imperfect. There is no prema-bhakti at that stage. But even this type of imperfect chanting will confer great spiritual benefits.
There are various types of namabhasa. If someone chants in “sincere ignorance”, not deliberately wanting to be offensive, he will be purified. There are many instances in sastras that I could tell.
One was the case of Ajamila, a well known story that you find in Srimad-Bhagavatam[1].
In the Hari-bhakti-vilasa[2] Srila Sanatana Gosvami says that if someone chants the Holy Name only once, even faithlessly, he is delivered from the samsara.
Namabhasa will eventually destroy all unwanted elements in our consciousness. There is no doubt. One has to just continue chanting Hare Krishna.
