Radharani rebukes Hridaya Caitanya
That night Hridaya Caitanya saw Caitanya Mahaprabhu in a dream. He saw that the bright white outer garment of Mahaprabhu was stained with blood in several spots. He inquired:
“What do you have in your garment? It seems to be blood caused by wounds. Who hurt you?”
Sri Caitanya said:
“You struck Syamananda with a stick and I took upon My body the wounds of that beating.”
Upon hearing this, Hridaya Caitanya felt very hurt and asked for His forgiveness again and again. Caitanya Mahaprabhu directed him to organize a twelve day Danda Mahotsava[1] to atone for the horrible Vaisnava offence committed by him.
The next day Hridaya Caitanya Prabhu informed all the Vaisnavas about the incident and the punishment given by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. When Syamananda came to know about it, he felt very sad and requested the Vaisnavas to allow him to organize the festival instead of his Gurudeva. Appreciating how much devotion and faith Syamananda Prabhu had in his Gurudeva, the Vaisnavas unanimously allowed him to organize the Danda Mahotsava. With the help of Jiva Gosvami and the Vaisnavas of Vraja, Syamananda Prabhu organized the first Danda Mahotsava in Vrindavana with great pomp as ordered by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
After the festival Hridaya Caitanya Prabhu left for Gauda Mandala accompanied by his associates and Syamananda Prabhu became again absorbed in the service and worship of Syamasundara.
[1] It means “a punishment festival”.
