Sadhu-sange anartha-nivrtti
(Removal of the Anarthas through the association of devotees)
There are no good or bad times to chant the holy names. As explained in the Siksastaka (2), the holy names are invested with all powers:
namnam akari bahudha nija-sarva-saktis
tatrarpita niyamitah smarane na kalah
etadrsi tava krpa bhagavan mamapi
durdaivam idrsam ihajani nanuragah
My lord, O Supreme Person, Your holy name can bestow all blessings on living beings, therefore You have hundreds and thousands of names, such as Krishna or Govinda, into which You expand. In these transcendental names You have invested all your transcendental powers. There are no strict rules for chanting these names. O Lord, in Your infinite mercy You allow us to easily approach You with the chanting of Your holy names, but I am so unfortunate that I have no attraction for them.
People are possessed by the most varied desires; therefore, You have distributed, thanks to Your mercy, many holy names. Whoever chants the holy name regardless of time or place, even while eating or sleeping, attains all perfections. You have invested every single holy name with all of Your power, but I am so unfortunate that I feel no attraction for Your holy names.
The following prayer for developing attraction to the holy name is found in Namastaka (5):
aghadamana-yasodanandanau nandasunoh
kamalanayana gopicandra vrndavanendrah
pranata-karuna-krishnav ity aneka-svarupe
tvayi mama ratir-uccair-vardhatam namadheya
O demon slayer Agha! Oh son of Yasoda! Oh son of Nanda! Oh You who have lotus eyes! Oh moon of the gopis! O Lord of Vrndavana! Oh mercy of those who abandon themselves to You! Oh Krishna! By Your Mercy You manifest Yourself in different forms. May my attachment to You increase more and more.
