Question

Dear Guru Maharaja,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to you and Srila Prabhupada.

When Lord Rsabhadeva went traveling all around the world why did people do such offensive things to him? For example people were spitting at him and throwing rocks at him. Thank you.

Your servant
Bhakta Rich

Answer

Dear Bhakta Richard,
Receive my blessings. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

#Risabhadeva was the son of Nabhi and father of Bharata, from whom came the name of the entire planet, Bharata-varsa. So exalted was Bharata Maharaja.

Srila Prabhupada, in his purport of the Srimad-Bhagatavam 1.3.13, say the following
“Those who have been trained for abstinence in material pleasures are called dhira, or men undisturbed by the senses. Only these dhiras can accept the orders of sannyasa, and they can gradually rise to the status of the paramahamsa, which is adored by all members of society. King #Rishabha propagated this mission, and at the last stage He became completely aloof from the material bodily needs, which is a rare stage not to be imitated by foolish men, but to be worshiped by all.”
So we apprehend that not only Risabhadeva was not a madman as he appeared but a realized soul. Nay, a prakasa expansion of the Lord Himself.

But ignorant people do not have this vision and thought of the Lord just a deranged person. So it happened that someone disrespected Him. But he thought a dharma, a way of spiiritual advancement, and many people followed him and found liberation. This was His mission.
