Ruci-bhajana (The taste for Bhajana)

He who chants the holy names has no other desire than pure devotion to Krishna. This is confirmed in the Siksastaka (4) as follows:

na dhanam na janam na sundarim

kavitam va jagad-isa kamaye

mama janmani janmanisvare

bhavatad bhaktir ahaituki tvayi

O Lord, I don’t desire material riches, I don’t desire beautiful women and I don’t want disciples. I only wish to engage in Your unconditional loving service, life after life.

The house and the objects that are part of it, the disciples, the riches in the form of animals and cereals, the wife, the children, the servants, the maids, the relatives, the fruitive activities described in flowery words and the beautiful women, they are all objects considered very important in the material world. But I don’t want to get these things. Oh Krishna, I only aspire to Your mercy in the form of pure devotion to You. The natural symptom of love is that a devotee who feels love for God thinks, “I don’t feel even a little love for Krishna.”

According to Srimad Bhagavatam (3.9.6), material wealth is an obstacle to devotion:
