If our philosophy were only such, that is, a set of information, then it would not matter who says the right things. Sri Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. If a sinner says it or an advanced devotee says it, that is the information.
But ours is a devotional philosophy, that is, devotion counts, and it counts a lot. So that is, what we say, as well as what we do, contains our level of consciousness. Eating food cooked by a devotee has one effect, cooked by a non-devotee has a different effect.
When we read a book written by someone whose spiritual problems we know, our level of attention and trust will unavoidably be different.
Ultimately, for spiritual advancement, it is best to read the books of Srila Prabhupada or of people who have an acceptable spiritual level.
