When you surrender, you give yourself completely

Saranapatti haile atma-nivedana haya

O Mahasaya, when a mood of sincerity arises, this is known as atma-nivedana[1].

Taking refuge in the Name without surrender

Saranapatti vyatita namasraye yaha haya

One who does not follow the six divisions of saranagati[2] falls from the spiritual path and becomes useless, due to the defect of thinking in terms of ‘I’ and ‘mine’.

They say: I am the one who decides the action! This is my family! I feel happiness and anguish because of my own actions.

I am my own protector, and I am the support for my wife, my brothers, my daughters and my sons.

My successes are due to my hard work, and because of this everything is perfect and beautiful.

Due to their mentality of ‘I’ and ‘mine’, such people are actually averse to the Supreme because they attach great importance to their own personality.

They develop knowledge of certain crafts and sciences, but due to their bad conduct, they cannot see the hand of the Supreme.

They hear about the glories of sri-nama but do not believe in them. However, due to social obligations, sometimes they chant Krishna-nama.

But they don’t reach Priti. This is the behavior of those who live the deceptive life of a dharma-dhvaji[3].

By chanting the Name carelessly, one acquires some punya, but not the actual result of priti. All this is declared by Sastra.

What is the basis of this?

Ihara mula ki?

This criminal offense is due to conditioning by Maya. Freeing oneself from this offense is certainly very difficult.

Those who have attained suddha-bhakti and are detached have given up the material world and taken shelter of the Name.

The method to give up this fault

Ei dosa tyagera upaya

Accepting the mood of a Niskincana[4], they worship the feet of Lord Krishna. They abandon worldly sense objects and practice nama-sankirtana.

Such people seek the association of sadhus and want to serve them, renouncing the waves of worldliness.

By doing this, eventually the Name will manifest in the mind and the concept of ‘I’ and ‘mine’ will disappear, and one goes beyond Maya.

It is natural for a devotee to surrender when he feels the glories of the Name and abandons the feeling of ‘I’ and ‘mine’.

That Mahajana who surrenders to the Name, chants Krishna-nama and attains the great wealth of prema.
