The Ramayana: Allegory or Historical Event?

Not a few have referred to the Ramayana as an allegorical work, thus emptying it of its historical value. Many say that the Ramayana is actually a poetic description of the progress of the Aryan culture in its establishment on the Indian sub-continent. These and others are suggestive theories, but at the same time they are a negation of historical, philosophical, and theological reality.

The Ramayana tells us a story that really happened. Rama, Sita, Hanuman, Ravana, and all the other characters that make up the vast horizon of the poem trully existed. Its historical basis and its antiquity have been more than proven. A simple trip to Ayodhya, going all the way that Rama made to the suggestive Ramesvaram would be enough to dispel any doubts. The Ramayana, its characters, and narrated facts are a historical reality.
