And the sacrifice began.

Dasaratha and his queens were at the edge of the arena. They were anxious and worried about the eventual success, but the confidence in the famous ascetic who led the yajna was total. At the sign of Risyasringa, Dasaratha and the queens sat down in front of the fire, and the king said aloud:

“This sacrifice is celebrated with the precise intention on my part to have children, since a mysterious destiny condemned me not to have any. My dynasty cannot be interrupted, so it is necessary for me to have a successor.”

“Oh, virtuous king,” Risyasringa replied, “your wish will be granted.”
