The Visnu Purana is one of the most important Purana.
It consists of 23,000 verses and includes the most important themes common to all the Puranas:
- Sarga (cosmogony),
- Pratisarga (cosmology),
- Vamsa (genealogy of the gods, sages and kings),
- Manvantara (cosmic cycles), and
- Vamsanucaritam (stories during the times of various kings)
