Sri Syamananda Prabhu was one of the most important spiritual masters of our history and an Avatara[1]. He was a liberated soul who came down from the spiritual world where he acts as a servant of a servant of Subala Gopa[2]. In fact in Nityananda Dasa’s book entitled “Prema Vilasa”, Syamananda Prabhu is described as an Avatara invested with the energy and devotional emotions of Sri Advaitacarya. In Sri Krishnacharana Dasa’s book named “Sri Syamananda Prakasa,” he is described as Lord Jagannatha’s body and Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s soul.
In the part of the spiritual world called Krishnaloka, or Goloka Vrindavana, he is Kanaka Manjari.
[1] Avatara means someone who crosses the boundaries dividing the spiritual world from the material world and descends for specific reasons.
[2] Subala is an eternal friend of Krishna and lives in Krishnaloka. Sri Sri Radha Krishna Ganoddesa Dipika describes his bodily features in this way: “He has a fair complexion. He wears handsome blue garments and he is decorated with many kinds of jewels and flowers. He is twelve-and-a-half years old and He glows with youthful luster. Although he is Krsna’s friend, he is immersed in serving Krsna in many different ways. He is expert at arranging the meeting of the divine couple. He is charming and full of transcendental love for Them. He is cheerful and full of good qualities. He is very dear to Krsna.”
